Bluetooth Worms

Saturday 4/29/2006 12:24:32 PM (CST) - Michael Wells

I discovered my first Bluetooth virus today.  Haven't figured out where exactly it was originating from, because there was no one in a 30ft radius.  But there was a gal with a cellphone some 30 meters away (90 ft).  I feel like I got an STD.  Should I tell her?  Aaah, love in a digital world.

My Fujitsu Stylistic happens to have Bluetooth support, and it kindly asked me whether I'd like to receive this file and where I'd like to save it.  Interesting.

Netgear ME102 and Orinoco Cards

Friday 12/10/2004 4:30:14 PM (CST) - Michael Wells

I recently purchased a Netgear ME102; a low-cost 802.11b wireless access point.  My primary wireless device is an Acer C102 Tablet PC which has in-built wi-fi support using the Orinoco chipset.

In unsecured mode, the Acer and the ME102 behave nicely, but as soon as WEP is enabled they stop talking completely.  Oddly, there are no errors; the signal strength shows as full... but access is completely dead.  After a lot of experimentation with 40-bit keys, 128-bit keys, varied security settings, I stumbled across the solution.
